MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has met with Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad at the latter's request.
"The pair discussed the developments in and around Syria," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website on Wednesday.
"There was an exchange of views on prospects for creating conditions to reach a political settlement in Syria through a broad intra-Syrian dialogue on the basis of the June 30, 2012 Geneva Communique," the ministry said.
"Swift normalization of the situation in Syria, tackling the crisis and its aftermath is in the interests of peace and security in the Middle Eastern region in general," the ministry stressed.
