Russian large assault ships Azov and Novocherkassk return to Mediterranean Sea - Russian Navy spokesman

MOSCOW. May 22 (Interfax-AVN) - The large assault ships Novocherkassk and Azov from the Russian Black Sea Fleet have rejoined Russia's naval group in the Mediterranean Sea as part of a routine rotation, a Navy Main Staff spokesman told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"On Wednesday, the large assault ships Novocherkassk and Azov of the Black Sea Fleet passed through the Black Sea straits and entered the Mediterranean Sea," he said.

The two ships had been in the Black Sea for the past two weeks.

Large assault ships from the Russian naval group in the Mediterranean Sea regularly return to Russia's Black Sea ports, including Novorossiysk, to stock up on supplies.

The Novocherkassk has conducted at least four deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, and the Azov two deployments since the beginning of the year.
