Russia calls for consolidated intl efforts to counter terrorism under UN SC resolutions - foreign ministry

MOSCOW. May 22 (Interfax) - Moscow is calling on its international partners to abandon the practice of using double standards when it comes to countering extremist groups, in particular, the Islamic State.

"For our part, we are renewing our appeal to international regional partners to stop using double standards in their counter-terrorism practices. We resolutely urge the international community to consolidate its efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism on the generally recognized basis, including under the United Nations Security Council Resolutions N2170, N2178 and N2199," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary published on Friday.

A few days ago ISIS terrorists took control over the Syrian city of Palmyra, which is on the world cultural-historical heritage list, the ministry said.

The actions by the U.S.-led so-called anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq and Syria "have until now failed to affect ISIS' ability to further expand its trans-border caliphate," the ministry said.
