MINSK. May 22 (Interfax) - The negotiations between Belarus and the European Union on the liberalization of the visa regime are nearing their final stage, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei told reporters in Riga on Friday.
"Several consultations have been conducted. We have made considerable progress on the issue of singing agreements. I can say that we are close to the final stage," Makei said.
"At the request of our partners, we have even begun the procedure of internal approval of these documents [on easing the visa regime and readmission]," he said.
Makei said the delay with the initialing of the agreements happened "through no fault of Belarus'."
Latvian Foreign Ministry State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovics said before the eastern Partnership summit in Riga that Belarus and the EU will not sign an agreement on mobility and will not initial the agreement on easing the visa regime yet.
"We are hoping to sign specific documents in mid June," he told reporters on May 19.
