MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - Councilor Yang Jiechi of the Chinese State Council has called on BRICS member countries to maintain close relations in the field of politics and security with the purpose of building a multi-polar world.
"It is necessary to improve the system of global governance, moreover given the economic crisis and our being in the same boat. We should promote a concept of cooperative, universal and equal security," Yang said at the fifth conference of BRICS senior officials on security issues in Moscow on Tuesday.
"We should maintain close contacts in the sphere of the economy, politics and security issues," he said.
He also called for continuing cooperation after the year 2015.
"We should negotiate international development after 2015 in order to promote equal relations in the world and to protect the lawful interests of developing nations. This is the only way to lay down a solid foundation for multi-polarity tendencies," he said.
