MOSCOW. June 4 (Interfax) - The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is jeopardizing Russia, Central Asia and China, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said.
"This is a threat to Russia, Central Asia and China," he said at a high-level conference, "Security and Stability in the SCO Region", in Moscow on Thursday.
The minister opposed the use of "neo-terrorists" by foreign actors to their advantage. "Countries establishing relations with [terrorist and extremist] groups with timeserving goals should understand that such relations can backfire," the Iranian minister remarked.
Zarif noted the importance of "consolidated individual and collective strategies in the fight against terrorism" and underlined that Iran deemed important the fostering of international law and supported the SCO position in cooperation with the UN.
