DONETSK. June 9 (Interfax) - One person was injured as a result of shelling of Donetsk, Eduard Basurin of the Defense Ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has said.
"Donetsk is being shelled at the moment. The information available suggests that one person has been injured," Basurin was quoted as saying by the Donetsk news agency.
The Ukrainian army's strikes are currently targeting the city's Kuibyshevsky district, he said.
The Joint Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) reported earlier that the Donetsk airport and the city's residential areas were being shelled.
"A 122mm piece of ammunition, most likely fired by a mortar or a self-propelled artillery system, has been spotted. Shells can be seen falling near the railway station of Donetsk and the village of Oktyabrsky. All in all, there have been five shells," a JCCC spokesman told Interfax.
The airport's new terminal also came under fire originating from the town of Opytne, he said.
