MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax-AVN) - The heavy nuclear-powered missile-carrying cruiser Admiral Nakhimov should be upgraded and returned to the Russian Navy in 2018, Russia's Navy Commander Admiral Viktor Chirkov has said.
"The Navy is awaiting the completion of the work to modernize the heavy nuclear-powered missile-carrying cruiser Admiral Nakhimov in 2018. Afterwards, the cruiser will be returned to the Navy," Chirkov said during a visit to the Sevmash enterprise in Severodvinsk on Friday.
It will be a virtually new ship in terms of its capabilities, the admiral said. All of the systems and weapons onboard the cruiser will be upgraded, he added.
