MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - The Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, has met with a delegation of the Yemeni political party, the General People's Congress (GPC), and reaffirmed Russia's position that the military confrontation in Yemen must end.
"The Russian side has reaffirmed its firm position in favor of swift cessation of the armed confrontation and violence in the Yemeni Republic, resumption of humanitarian pauses in the very near future and the creation of conditions for unimpeded relief aid delivery to all regions of the country, as well as resolution of all problematic issues on the intra-Yemeni agenda as part of an inclusive national dialogue," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.
The Yemeni representatives "expressed their support for the efforts of the UN [United Nations] Secretary General's Special Envoy, Ismail Ahmed, aimed at continuing the intra-Yemeni negotiating process of resolving the acute domestic crisis in that country," the statement reads.
The Yemeni delegation also included GPC deputy chairman Abu Bakr al-Qirbi, a former Yemeni foreign minister, and GPC deputy chairman Yasser Al-Awadi, the deputy leader of the GPC faction in the Yemeni parliament.
