Russian Navy to procure eight warships, two subs before yearend - Shoigu

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax-AVN) - State defense orders of the Russian Navy are being fulfilled, and the Navy will procure eight ships of main classes and two submarines before the end of this year, Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu said on Monday.

"Before the end of this year, the Navy will receive eight ships of main classes, among them the first frigate Admiral Gorshkov and the corvette Sovershenny, as well as another two submarines of Project 636 for the Black Sea Fleet," Shoigu said at a meeting with senior commanders of the Russian Defense Ministry on Monday.

The minister said also that ten cutters of various purposes had already been delivered to the Russian Navy in 2015.

Shoigu noted that "all submarines and most ships and support vessels were being built at enterprises of United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC)."

USC enterprises also do up to 90% of works in the repairs and maintenance of ships and vessels.
