ST. PETERSBURG. July 1 (Interfax-AVN) - An international conference over military aspects of the situation in Afghanistan is due to be held under the aegis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in October 2015, Russian Defense Minister Army Gen. Sergei Shoigu has said.
"The developments in Afghanistan are of particular concern. We therefore agreed to hold an international conference of the SCO countries' armed forces chiefs of staff in Moscow in October 2015 to discuss the military aspects of the situation in that country," Shoigu told reporters after a meeting of the SCO defense ministers on Tuesday.
There are plans to invite representatives from all the countries neighboring Afghanistan, he said.
Consolidation of efforts by the SCO defense ministries is crucial in addressing the whole range of challenges facing the Organization, Shoigu said.
