Construction of AIP-powered boats to begin in about four years - Navy commander-in-chief

ST. PETERSBURG. July 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Construction of submarines powered by the air-independent propulsion (AIP) system for the Russian Navy will begin after 2018, Russian Navy Commander-in-chief Admiral Viktor Chirkov told reporters in St. Petersburg on Friday.

"The creation of the air-independent propulsion system for submarines is going to plan, in accordance with the created specimens. So far there have no schedule shifts and moves. The construction of boats with this system will begin after 2018," Chirkov said.
