DUSHANBE. July 6 (Interfax) - An incident involving border guards of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan happened in the area of the Tajik Vorukh exclave in Kyrgyzstan on Monday evening. A citizen of Tajikistan was killed, a source in the Tajik Border Service has told Interfax.
The incident happened at about 5 p.m. local time (3 p.m. Moscow time) near the village of Kocho-Karyn in the Batken district of the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, in the direct proximity to Vorukh.
"Kyrgyz colleagues alleged that a group of Vorukh residents came to Kocho-Karyn and started to cast stones at homes and cars of local residents. Border details from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan arrived and engaged in an oral argument," the source said.
In the end, both sides opened fire.
"A resident of Vorukh, a citizen of Tajikistan, was killed. He was heavily injured and died on the way to hospital," the source said.
Border Troops officers of both republics came to the incident site. An investigation is being held. The incident happened on the Kyrgyz territory, and Kyrgyz law enforcement authorities would be investigating the death of the Tajik citizen.
"We do not know yet what made Tajik citizens come to the Kyrgyz village. But we will certainly find that out; we are hopeful of full-scale cooperation with our Kyrgyz colleagues," the source underlined.
