MINSK. July 10 (Interfax) - In a meeting with Iranian leaders, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said he is hoping to deepen cooperation with Iran, his press service reported on Friday.
"It seems to me that Iran cannot make any claims against us on any of the issues that we discussed and on which we reached agreements because we have always honored and observed our agreements," Lukashenko said during a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Ufa on Thursday.
"I want to tell you that this is how it will be in the future: if we have reached agreements with you, we will honor our agreements," Lukashenko said.
Lukashenko said the countries have gone through very difficult times in their bilateral relations that were associated with external claims, sanctions and pressure. "We successfully passed that period," the Belarusian leader said.
Lukashenko congratulated Iran on its successes on the international scene. "I am very happy that these negotiations [on Iran's nuclear program] are going on and good prospects associated with the new president of Iran are opening up. We are really hoping to deepen our cooperation," the president said.
The Iranian president, for his part, pointed out interest in the development of relations with Belarus. "We are always friends personally with you and with Belarus," he said.
