CSTO Sec Gen to discuss assistance for Tajik-Afghan border strengthening in Dushanbe

MOSCOW/DUSHANBE. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha will meet with Tajik leaders during his trip to Tajikistan. Military-technological assistance for the strengthening of the Tajik-Afghan border will be on the agenda.

"Nikolai Bordyuzha will meet with the supreme military-political leadership of Tajikistan: President Emomali Rahmon, Foreign Minister Sirojidin Aslov, Defense Minister Sherali Mirzo and Security Council Secretary Abdurahim Kahharov," says the report seen by Interfax-AVN.

Bordyuzha is visiting Tajikistan on August 17-19. This is a leg of his tour to CSTO member countries aimed to prepare for a Collective Security Council session and a joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, Council of Defense Ministers and Committee of Security Council Secretaries due to be held in Dushanbe on September 14-15.

"During the visit, the CSTO secretary general will discuss the achievement of priorities set by Tajikistan as the CSTO chair country in 2015 and military-technological assistance for Tajik-Afghan border strengthening," the press service said.

The Tajik Foreign Ministry recalled that the relocation of CSTO Collective Operative Response Force (CORF) servicemen was practiced in a surprise check of their combat preparedness in May. Belarusian, Kazakh and Russian CORF contingents landed at the airports of Qurghonteppa, in southern Tajikistan, and Dushanbe at nighttime.

The CSTO pledged assistance and support to the Tajik Defense Ministry and Border Service in bolstering the longest border with Afghanistan, 1,344 kilometers, amongst CIS countries.

The CSTO comprises of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
