KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The number of Ukrainians who are ready to vote for Ukraine's membership in NATO in a referendum prevails over opponents to such a decision, judging by a poll conducted by the Rating sociological group.
If a corresponding referendum were held in July 2015, then 41% of Ukrainians would have voted for Ukraine's accession to NATO, 30% against, 15% would have remained undecided and 14% would not have taken part in the referendum.
Speaking of the regional breakdown of preferences on the matter, the number of supporters of membership prevails in all regions except Eastern Ukraine. Thus, in the West membership is supported by 63% of those polled while 24% are opposed, in Central Ukraine the correlation is 43% to 26% and in South Ukraine - 40% to 33%.
Meanwhile, in Eastern Ukraine 15% would vote for membership, 17% are undecided, 25% would not take part and 42% would vote against.
The poll was conducted in all parts of Ukraine, except those not controlled by Kyiv, on July 10-30 with an additional survey in the Odesa region. The poll involved 1,200 permanent residents of Ukraine aged 18 and more with voting rights.
The poll was conducted by the Rating sociological group on orders from the IRI, with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
