MOSCOW. Sept 7 (Interfax) - The surprise checks of the combat readiness of the Russian Armed Forces are posing no threat to any neighboring state, says Sergei Koshelev, the head of the Main Directorate for International Defense Cooperation at the Russian Defense Ministry.
"This is yet another inspection, analogous to those that were held previously and will be held in future," he said, commenting on the surprise inspection of the combat readiness of troops of the Central Military District (CMD) at a briefing for foreign military attaches.
"I want to stress one thing and ask you to deliver it to your capitals: the primary goal of such drills is to check combat readiness of the Russian Armed Forces, and such checks are no threat to any neighboring state," he told foreign military diplomats.
The Russian Defense Ministry is holding today's briefing solely in the spirit of good will, he said. "We have no obligation to provide such information under any of our international agreements. At the same time, we do want our colleagues, the military attaches working in Moscow, to understand the goals and tasks of the events we are conducting," Koshelev said.
