MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Moscow is concerned about recent events in Tajikistan but is sure that the situation is under control.
"We are closely monitoring the situation because the events happening in an allied country cannot help but bother us," a source in the Russian Foreign Ministry told Interfax.
"At the same time, we do not doubt that the central authorities are in control of this situation. Exhaustive measures are being taken to confine this conflict," he said.
"What is now happening, what we have to watch in the media and in reports of diplomatic institutions indicates that the government is doing its utmost to prevent destabilization and the thwarting of Independence Day celebrations planned for tomorrow," he said.
"We think that the Tajik administration is taking correct and comprehensive measures demonstrating their profound responsibility for security and tranquility in the entire country, and we naturally wish Tajikistan to successfully deal with this unpleasant episode," the source said.
As to who is responsible for the events in Tajikistan, the source said, "Judging by the official statements made in Dushanbe, the conclusion offers itself."
"We believe that interests of particular individuals or, perhaps, narrow groups have clashed with national interests and, under such circumstances, the national authorities simply had to react in order to restore tranquility," he said.
