Northern Fleet's motor riflemen hold anti-terror drill on Novaya Zemlya

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Arctic motor-rifle brigade of the Northern Fleet has destroyed mock terrorists during an exercise on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, the fleet's spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN.

"The NF motor-riflemen on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago held an exercise of de-blocking a critical defense infrastructure asset from a group of mock terrorists," Serga said.

According to the exercise scenario, the group of terrorists near the Rogachyovo airfield blocked several defense facilities. The task of de-blocking the facilities and neutralizing the terrorists was assigned to the Northern Fleet separate Arctic motor-rifle brigade who disembarked amphibious assault ships in the Rogachyovo bay, the spokesman said.

For the brigade, which was formed early in 2015, this is already a third exercise conducted in an unfamiliar Arctic area, Serga recalled. The previous two, held in September, involved protecting Russia's Arctic insular zone and maritime coast on the New Siberian Islands and protecting a critical industrial facility on the Taymyr Peninsula.
