SOCHI. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Saudi Arabia has reiterated at a meeting with Russia that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad should step down and Syria preserve its statehood.
"Once again we reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's position that we are calling on al-Assad to renounce power, as well as our position towards continued support for the moderate opposition. But our main goal with Russia is to find ways of stepping up, and find common platforms for the implementation of the Geneva communique in order to preserve the united Syrian state," Saudi Foreign Minister Adil al-Ahmad al-Jubayr told reporters on Sunday.
