Kyrgyz president dismisses defense minister implicated in corruption case

BISHKEK. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Defense Minister Abibilla Kudaiderdiyev, against whom a criminal case has been opened, has been dismissed from his post.

"Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has signed a decree dismissing Defense Minister Abibilla Kudaiderdiyev from his post," the presidential press service told Interfax on Monday.

The press service did not say what the reason for the dismissal was. Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Service of the State National Security Committee earlier reported that a criminal case had been opened against Kudaiderdiyev on the basis of indications of crimes associated with abuse of office, forgery and misappropriation or embezzlement of property.

The Anti-Corruption Service said that the minister is charged with creating a corruption scheme for the purposes of embezzling public funds and that the damage is in the millions of soms.
