MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin thoroughly explained Russia's position on Syria to the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and the defense minister of Saudi Arabia at their negotiations, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said.
"As our partners had some questions, we explained our position and our practical actions in Syria very circumstantially, including bombardments and so on," Ushakov said summing up the negotiations' results on Monday.
Asked whether he believes Russia's partners understood its position, Ushakov replied, "It seems to me they did."
Ushakov cited the Saudi Arabian foreign minister's remark that, "during the negotiations our Russian friends were able to persuade the Saudi partners that Russia's main goal in Syria is to combat the Islamic State and terrorism in general."
"We assess these meetings very positively," Ushakov said.
It was reported earlier that Putin, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, a deputy commander in chief of the United Arab Emirates armed forces, had met in Sochi on Sunday.
