ISIL militants number up to 3,000 in Afghanistan - CSTO

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Afghanistan is a source of real threats from the member-countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Deputy secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO states on the issues of international and regional security have drawn such a conclusion at a meeting in Moscow.

"The participants in the meeting said that a source of real threats for the CSTO states is Afghanistan. The illegal flow of drugs, which were produced in Afghanistan, is growing from the country, the activity of radical extremist Islamic groupings and the danger of their infiltration into the countries in the Central Asian region is getting stronger," the CSTO Secretariat said in a statement received by Interfax-AVN.

It said that the participants in the meeting voiced concerns about the Taliban militants closely approaching the border with Tajikistan and already in control of more than 60% of the Afghan border territories.

The appearance of ISIL militants, who already number from 2,000 to 3,000, was also noticed in Afghanistan. Concerns were voiced over the possible deterioration of the situation on the border line between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
