Moscow expects to cooperate with Turkey in fighting IS - diplomat

MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Moscow counts on Turkey's support in combating Islamic State in Syria, says Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

"Our antiterrorist strategy enjoys the understanding of a number of regional players," Bogdanov said at a conference organized by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) on Thursday.

"We hope that our Turkish friends will render the necessary support to us and that we will be acting in coordination," he said.

"The consolidation of efforts in combating ISIL between the Syrian authorities, the moderate part of the Syrian opposition and Syrian Kurdish militia units, with assistance from key regional and international players, could play a decisive role in countering the jihadists," he said.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin came up with this initiative back in summer," he added.
