MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Algeria will receive 14 Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopters under two contracts with Russia by the end of 2017, a Russian defense industry source told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"The shipment of 14 Mi-26T2 helicopters ordered by Algeria will be completed at the end of 2017," the source said.
The first contract signed with Algeria stipulates the delivery of six and the second eight Mi-26T2s, he said.
"The first contract for six Mi-26T2s will be completed in 2016. Two helicopters have already been delivered and two more will be shipped at the end of this year. One helicopter will be delivered in the first and second quarter of 2016 each, which will complete the deliveries under the first contract," he said.
"Deliveries of Mi-26T2s under the second contract will begin in the second half of 2016 and will be completed by the end of 2017," he said.
"A special version of the Mi-26T2 has been built to meet Algeria's requirements, which were formulated after the first experimental Mi-26T2 was demonstrated in Algeria," he said.
It was reported earlier that Algeria had purchased six Mi-26T2 heavy transport helicopters and 42 Mi-28NE 'Night Hunter' attack helicopters from Russia under a $2.7-billion contract. The document also envisions the modernization of 39 Mi-171Sh helicopters.
