More work will be required to defeat terrorism in Syria - Putin

KRASNAYA POLYANA (SOCHI). Oct 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the Russian Aerospace Force's operation in Syria has already produced positive results, but it is still too early to speak about any victory over terrorism.

"In my opinion, such a result has already been achieved. And our military experts think the same. But is this enough to be able to say that terrorism has been defeated in Syria? No, it is not," Putin told a meeting of the 'Valdai' discussion club.

"Further serious efforts will be required in order to be able to make such a declaration. More work, I would like to stress joint work, will be required," he added.

"I would not like to 'make a dig' at anyone, but the U.S.-led coalition has been conducting strikes there for almost a year and a half. More than 500 strikes have been carried out, and 11 countries have taken part in these actions. But there have been no results. It is an obvious fact," the Russian leader said.
