Venezuela negotiating purchase of 12 Sukhoi fighters with Rosoboronexport - media (Part 2)

MADRID. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Venezuela is negotiating a possible purchase of twelve brand new Sukhoi fighter jets with Russian company Rosoboronexport, says a report published on the infodefensa.com portal on Friday.

According to the portal, the issue has been discussed in particular between Rosoboronexport representatives and Venezuelan Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Edgar Valentin Cruz Arteaga on October 19.

The type of the fighter jet is not specified.

However, a number of credible sources insisted that it was the Sukhoi Su-35, the portal said.

A Rosoboronexport spokesman told Interfax-AVN on Friday about "long-standing fruitful cooperation with Venezuela" but declined to comment on the subject.

The only thing that has been confirmed as of yet is the purchase of a Sukhoi Su-30MK2 to replace the same-type plane lost in a tragic accident on September 17, infodefensa.com reported.
