Kyrgyz president appoints new defense chief, General Staff chief

BISHKEK. Nov 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev has conducted staff reshuffles in defense and security agencies, his press office told Interfax on Thursday.

The president signed a decree relieving the chief of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces General Staff, Asanbek Alymkozhoyev, of his duties and replacing him with Zhanybek Kaparov, the press office said.

Marat Kanzhisariyev has been appointed Chairman of the State Defense Committee, formerly the country's defense ministry.

In addition, Abdil Segizbayev has been appointed head of the Kyrgyz State National Security Committee, the press office said.

President Atambayev signed a decree appointing Segizbayev Chairman of the State National Security Committee and removing him from the previous office. Until now, Segizbayev has served as the Committee's deputy chairman for four years.

"The now ex-chief of the State National Security Committee, Busurmankul Tabaldiyev, has been appointed Advisor to Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev," the press office said.
