ICRC discusses missing persons issue with DPR, Kyiv, intends to promote data accumulation

DONETSK. Nov 9 (Interfax) - A delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has discussed accumulation of information about persons missing in the Donbas conflict with representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Kyiv.

Head of the ICRC sub-delegation for Donetsk Dena Fisher told reporters they had discussed numerous technical matters, including accumulation of information about missing persons, equipment, materials and financial support. This is just the beginning of the process, and the task of the technical meeting was to understand what should be done to make it work, Fisher said.

She was commenting on a Donetsk roundtable involving DPR representatives dedicated to persons missing in Donbas.

Prior to that, the ICRC held a similar meeting with the Ukrainian side in Kyiv, she said. According to Fisher, they organized a similar event in Kyiv a short time ago, and their task as a neutral intermediary was to discuss the issue with both conflicting sides and to find a way of sharing experience and information in order to find out what happened to those people.

Close interaction and time are required to produce results, Fisher said.

The process is just beginning, and it will go on because many families are waiting for answers, she said, adding that they want answers to questions about the missing persons to be given. This is a long and complex process, and it will require close interaction and time, but the ICRC hopes that this is a good step forward, she said.
