MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian state corporation Roscosmos, which will comprise the federal space agency and space industry enterprises, on Friday revealed how many people the company is planning to employ.
"The Roscosmos state corporation will employ 500, and the staff numbers at URSC [United Rocket and Space Corporation] will be brought down to 130 staff [instead of the current over 200]. This means Roscosmos will become the most compact state corporation that is also functioning as a federal executive body," Roscosmos' General Director Igor Komarov told Interfax-AVN.
The new state corporation's staff numbers will be 2.5 times those currently employed by the Federal Space Agency, sources in the space industry said.
"The federal space agency has 200 people working for it, the rest are formally employed in affiliated enterprises," the source said.
"In reality, the federal space agency had 600 people working for it, it's just that many employees were on the payroll of other enterprises and organizations in the industry," Komarov said.
A source in the space industry told Interfax-AVN earlier about the organizational structure of the new state corporation.
"Under a new organizational structure, the head of the state corporation will have ten deputies, including first deputy and state secretary. In addition, he will have three executive directors who will report to him directly or to his first deputy," the source said.
Deputy general directors and executive directors will be in charge of 26 departments; three other departments (internal audit, communications and administration) will be accountable to the head of the corporation. The department of piloted space programs will be in charge of manned missions.
