Unity in fight against intl terrorism is task for world parliamentarians - Matviyenko

MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Inter-parliamentary cooperation consolidates efforts for the fight against international terrorism, the utmost manifestation of which is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) outlawed in Russia, Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko has said.

"It is a task of parliamentarians all over the world to promote the unity of states and the public in the fight against international terrorism, the utmost manifestation of which is ISIL," Matviyenko said in an interview published by the newspaper Izvestia on Monday.

She reminded the readers that ISIL had been recruiting its followers across the globe. "See how many Europeans, not migrants living in Europe but people who were born and grew up there, were raised in a secular environment and educated, are brainwashed by the ISIL propaganda. Unfortunately, our country is no exception," Matviyenko said.

"The Paris tragedy is one more signal to politicians, statesmen that they should take joint resolute steps to combat terrorism. We, parliamentarians, will do everything we can to consolidate efforts of parliaments in all countries for the fight against this universal evil," the chairperson said.

"All of us should say the truth about this structure and uncover their actual plans and intentions so that people do not fall under the influence of propaganda. It is time to recall the words of Julius Fucik who said, 'Mankind, I loved you, be vigilant!' People, be vigilant, do not be deceived," she added.

ISIL does not recognize dissidents, it is alien to human ideals and values and this concerns not only Middle East or Islamic countries, she said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is constantly declaring the need for close interaction in the fight against international terrorism as the biggest threat to mankind, Matviyenko said.

"Ye the response of many countries has been unfoundedly slow. Everyone seems to say 'yes' but they are not in a hurry to take practical steps towards forming an international coalition for fighting ISIL and other terrorist organizations," she said.
