NATO countries support Georgia's accession to NATO - U.S. ambassador

TBILISI. Nov 16 (Interfax) - U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly said Georgia has firm support of the U.S. on the issue of accession to NATO.

This support is manifested not only in words, but also in real investment, Kelly said in an interview with the Georgian weekly Kviris Palitra on Monday, reiterating that he means joint military trainings and the provision to Georgia of technological knowledge and equipment.

At the same time, the ambassador said a positive decision on Georgia's accession to NATO requires the consensus of 28 NATO countries.

He said one needs to admit that sometimes it is difficult to achieve such consensus in NATO, but Georgia will be firmly supported by the U.S. and its other friends, especially the countries of the NATO eastern flank. They will promote the achievement of Georgia's goal, the ambassador said.

He also said Georgia is the second country after the U.S. in the number of its military contingent involved in the NATO operation in Afghanistan.

Kelly said he believes Georgia has a Euro-Atlantic future.
