GORKI. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Risks of radioactive contamination have been eliminated in Russia, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said.
"Thanks to common efforts, primarily those of state corporation Rosatom and interested departments, a balanced system has been developed for control of nuclear sites and, let us hope, risks of radiation, environmental catastrophes have been practically reduced to naught," the prime minister said at a government meeting on Monday.
There are numerous examples "of the decommissioning of research reactors, the disposal of ships that used to transport nuclear waste, and a number of other decisions regarding radioactive waste storage sites," he said.
"It is our duty to prevent an impact of radiation factors on people and the environment," Medvedev said.
The federal targeted radiation security program was developed in 2008 for the period until 2015, he said.
