MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - A visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Japan will remain under consideration and prior to that Japanese Prime Minister Sinzho Abe may visit one of Russian regions, the Kremlin has said.
"The subject of the visit [of Putin to Japan] will remain under consideration, discussion. Probably, the Japanese prime minister will visit one of Russian regions before that. This is a subject for discussion," Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, referring to the conversation Putin and Abe said in Antalya on Sunday.
The contact between the Russian and Japanese leaders on the G20 summit sidelines in Antalya was not planned at the start, it happened "at the initiative of our Japanese colleagues," Peskov said.
A peace treaty between Russia and Japan was an item on the agenda, he said. "[The Russian and Japanese leaders] touched upon the peace treaty subject," the Kremlin press secretary said.
