Abe may visit Russia before Putin's trip to Japan - Peskov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - A visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Japan will remain under consideration and prior to this Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe may visit one of the Russian regions, the Kremlin has said.

"The subject of the visit [of Putin to Japan] will remain under consideration, discussion. Probably, the Japanese prime minister will visit one of the Russian regions before that. This is a subject for discussion," Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, referring to the conversation between Putin and Abe in Antalya on Sunday.

The contact between the Russian and Japanese leaders on the G20 summit sidelines in Antalya was not planned at the start, but happened "at the initiative of our Japanese colleagues," Peskov said.

A peace treaty between Russia and Japan was an item on the agenda, he said. "[The Russian and Japanese leaders] touched upon the peace treaty subject," the Kremlin press secretary said.

"We have also stated that although trade turnover has reduced, the same as with many other countries, Japanese companies continue to exhibit substantial interest [in the Russian market], they are not leaving," Peskov said.
