Russian Jewish community calls for Hezbollah, Hamas to be declared terrorist organizations

MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - The Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia (FJCR) has disagreed with the Russian Foreign Ministry's assessment of Hezbollah and Hamas.

"Dividing terrorists into 'ours' and 'theirs' is a road obviously leading to erroneous decisions in the cause of fighting terror. This is not the road that will allow us to defeat terror at the international level," said FJCR President Alexander Boroda, commenting on the remarks by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov that Russia does not consider Hezbollah and Hamas to be terrorist organizations.

The consequences of operations of these two organizations "are hundreds of deaths and ruined lives," Boroda said, as quoted by his press office on Monday.

"These organizations are responsible for countless crimes, multiple killings of the Israeli, the Lebanese, Gaza residents whom they always use as a shield during their attacks on Israel. The world must learn the lesson that terrorism has not one single reasonable goal. These are obsessed people who use aggression and cruelty to sow fear and disunity among the civilian population," he said.

The FJCR president urged action as a united front in the fight against terrorism, "against all terrorist organizations without exception, whatever the 'principles' and reasons they cover themselves up with."

A day earlier the Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and North Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, told journalists that Russia does not consider Hezbollah and Hamas to be terrorist organizations.
