LPR says situation deteriorating on frontline

LUHANSK. Nov 16 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian military has fired small arms on the people's militia positions of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) near Maryivka, deputy chief of staff of the LPR people's militia corps Ihor Yashchenko said.

"Yesterday, on November 15, Ukrainian Armed Forces units shelled at 5.20 p.m. our positions in the Maryivka area. Small arms were fired. Apart from this, a Ukrainian army armored personnel vehicle was moving from flank to flank at the same place at the same time and was launching illuminating flares. This is a sheer provocation," Yashchenko said at a press briefing.

He said that representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC) were informed about this incident.

"The situation in the republican people's militia responsibility zone is deteriorating," Yashchenko said.

The Ukrainian military are taking actions "pursuing an obvious goal of provoking the returning of fire from the side of our units," he said.

The deputy chief of staff said that there were no losses among LPR people's militia.
