U.S. claims to be providing jailed Russian man Yaroshenko with all necessary medical aid

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - The United States Embassy to Russia has denied Russia's accusations that the U.S. has ostensibly failed to provide jailed Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko with proper medical assistance and thwarted consular access to him.

"The United States is committed to meeting its obligations under both international and domestic law for proper treatment of persons detained or incarcerated in the criminal justice system, including the provision of adequate medical care. We also ensure consular access for jailed foreigners under the Vienna Convention. Russian consular officials have visited Mr. Yaroshenko a number of times," U.S. Embassy spokesperson William Stevens told Interfax.

"Konstantin Yaroshenko was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring to import more than $100 million worth of cocaine into the United States," Stevens said.
