MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Assembly, which encompasses the Federation Council and the State Duma, has called call for punishment for terrorism to be tightened and for security to be increased in public venues at a meeting on Friday.
According to the adopted resolution, Russian parliamentarians consider it necessary to "toughen criminal liability for terrorism and complicity in it, including recruitment, advertising and propaganda of terror methods and practices, as well as financing and any other support for terrorist groups."
The parliamentarians also suggest "boosting measures to ensure civilians' security during mass events, on transport and in other public venues, describing it as the absolute priority when formulating appropriate regulatory acts."
In addition to that, they call "for necessary measures to be taken together with the constituents of the Russian Federation, civil society institutions, traditional faiths and media in order to prevent religious, ethnic and other forms of extremism and eradicate its socioeconomic and ideological roots."
"Society needs a stable immunity against this terrorist pest and any other ideas aimed at inciting national or religious hatred and undermining public order. Only in this case, all attempts by extremists will be doomed to failure from the very beginning," the draft document says.
