SOCHI. Nov 24 (Interfax) - Russian Su-24 military aircraft was shot down by Turkey despite the fact that the country had joined the U.S.-led coalition fighting against terrorism and Russia had signed an agreement on prevention of air incidents over Syria with U.S., Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Our planes were conducting anti-ISIL operations in northern Latakia, this is a mountainous area occupied by militants, coming mainly from the Russian Federation and in this context, they were accomplishing their direct task to carry out preventive strikes on terrorists," Putin said during his meting with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan on Tuesday.
"We have been recording for a long time the fact that large amounts of oil and oil products go to the Turkish territory from the territories occupied in Syria. It results in the large cash flows, the large money supplies for the armed gangs and now the strikes in the back, strikes on our planes that fight against terrorists and all this happens after we signed an agreement with our American counterparts on prevention of air incidents. As far as we know, Turkey is among those who announced that they were allegedly fighting against terrorism within the American coalition," Putin said.
