Pilot in command of downed Su-24 to be awarded Hero of Russia Star posthumously - Putin

NIZHNY TAGIL. Nov 25 (Interfax) - The pilot killed in the downing of Russia's Sukhoi Su-24 bomber by a Turkish fighter jet in Syria will be awarded a Hero of Russia Star, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

"The pilot in command will be posthumously awarded a Hero of the Russian Federation Star," he told reporters.

Speaking of the co-pilot, the president said, "He has been rescued, this is the orientation pilot, he has been taken to our, I think he is already at the base, at the airfield. He and every other participant in the operation, including the rescue operation, will be decorated with state awards. The proposal has been made by the Defense Ministry," Putin said.
