TBILISI. Dec 1 (Interfax) - The Georgian State Security Service officially confirmed the detention of a group of persons presumably connected to ISIL on Tuesday.
Four persons have been taken into custody, State Security Service deputy head Levan Izoria said at a press briefing.
The State Security Service's Anti-Terrorism Center is studying the involvement of mercenaries in the armed conflict in Syria, he said.
"A number of persons sharing ideology of the terrorist group ISIL were exposed in the course of the inquiry based on operative information," the State Security Service deputy head said.
Eleven residencies were searched under a court warrant, he said.
Grenades, handguns, ammunition, computers, electronic media, books and flags carrying ISIL symbols were found during the searches, Izoria said.
The investigation goes on, he added.
Late last week the Georgian media reported a special operation held by the security services in the Ozurgeti district in western Georgia.
