Russian, British diplomats discuss cooperation on counterterrorism in Syria

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and British Foreign Office Political Director Simon Gass discussed issues relating to international cooperation in the fight against terrorism in the territory of Syria on Friday.

"The meeting participants had a detailed discussion on vital issues relating to the Middle East agenda with an emphasis on the situation in Syria and around it, including issues relating to coordinated international countering of the terrorist threat represented by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant [banned in Russia]," a report posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry website on Friday says.

The diplomats also spoke about the issue of external support of the process of political settlement in the Syrian Arab Republic by the International Syria Support Group based on the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012.
