U.S. rejection of Assad contributes to ISIL spread - Lavrov

ROME. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said it is wrong that by refusing to accept Syrian President Bashar al-Assad the United States thereby facilitates the spread of Daesh, the Arab name for Islamic State, a terror group banned in Russia.

"It is a mistake that because of al-Assad, the U.S. allows ISIL to spread," Lavrov told an international convention on Mediterranean problems in Rome on Friday.
