Federation Council praises role of Kurds in combating terrorists in Syria

MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Kurds play an important role in combating ISIL, head of the Federation Council International Affairs' Committee Konstantin Kosachyov believes.

"We regard the operations of Kurdish formations in that zone as an important element of resisting ISIL," he said at a Monday meeting with German ambassador to Russia Ruediger von Fritsch.

In the senator's opinion, the effort against terrorists would be comprehensive and have a greater scale.

"You know that Russia is interacting with the Syrian government and coordinating the moves of our aerospace forces with the ground operations of the Syrian army but indisputably there is an understanding that the operation should be more comprehensive and have a greater scale," Kosachyov said.

"There is no contradiction here that Kurdish formations are also involved in tackling this task, probably on a greater volume, even though we know that this does not always find understanding in the Turkish government," the senator added.
