MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax-AVN) - A cruise missile designed by the NPO Mashinostroyeniya military industry corporation was test-fired at the Russian Defense Ministry's range in the Arkhangelsk region on Tuesday, corporation representative Anton Degtyaryov told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"As a result of a contingency, which happened after the launch, the missile deviated from the set trajectory and fell into the so-called launch 'danger zone'. People who live, or stay within that zone, are always evacuated in advance before the works are done, and the same [thing] happened this time. Therefore, there are no casualties. A three-storey house suffered minor damage [windows were shattered and apartments were damaged]. Importantly, the cruise missile did not hit the house. Home repairs started immediately," he said.
"The NPO Mashinostroyeniya military industry corporation will actively participate in the restoration of the apartments," he said.
The Russian Defense Ministry's press service and information department said on Tuesday, that a commission of Russian defense industry representatives was working at the site where the cruise missile fell. The missile was test-fired at the Russian Defense Ministry's range in the Arkhangelsk region earlier that day.
