LATAKIA, Syria. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Russian aviation forces have destroyed a base used by terrorists of Islamic State (or ISIL, an organization banned in Russia) in Syria's Homs province, a concentration of militants in the Aleppo province; and, after receiving intelligence from the Syrian opposition, a large ISIL base in the Idlib province, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov has said.
"Our (Sukhoi) Su-24M bomber destroyed a disguised ISIL base near the town of al-Qaryatain in the Homs province. [Using] underground shelters, the militants had set up a command post, an ammunition depot and barracks," Konashenkov told reporters on Wednesday.
The terrorist structures were destroyed through precision bombing, he said.
"In the Aleppo province, a Su-24 bomber carried out an attack against a concentration of ISIL militants and equipment," Konashenkov added. Objective-monitoring data confirmed that at least ten militants, and three vehicles armed with large-caliber machineguns, had been destroyed.
Near Maaret Al-Numan in the Idlib province a Su-25 attack aircraft destroyed a large ISIL base.
"A standalone building was used by militants as a command post and to store supplies and ammunition," said Konashenkov, adding that "we obtained information about the location of this object from representatives of the Syrian opposition."
"After verifying this information through the information center in Baghdad, and having the militant base coordinates reconnoitered further by drones, this object was destroyed in an attack carried out by the Su-25 attack aircraft," he said.
