Putin allows for possibility of Russian Armed Forces' temporary base in Syria

MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow could keep a temporary base for its armed forces in Syria.

"There may be some temporary base. This is possible. But there is no pressing need to grow roots, to get in there. We will think about this," Putin said at his annual press conference on Thursday, answering a question about the future of Russian bases in Syria.
