MOSCOW. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Denis Pushilin, who represents the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) at the Minsk talks, has backed the idea of legislating the special status for Donbas on a permanent basis under a formula proposed by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
"We support this position, this position was repeatedly discussed within the Contract Group and its political subgroup. What is needed, is a special law, that must concern our territories and a long period of time," Pushilin said on the Rossiya-24 television channel.
These proposals are coming from the Package of Measures to implement the Minsk agreements of February 12, 2015, he said.
"They think up nothing new, and reinforce once again, the same provisions and the need to act based on the premise that these provisions should be implemented in the package, and not one by one as suggested by Ukraine," Pushilin said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Russia's representative at the talks over Ukraine, Boris Gryzlov, told reporters that Donbas must receive a legislated special status on a permanent basis under a formula proposed by the German foreign minister.
