MOSCOW. Feb 10 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry will process a proposal of several State Duma deputies to renounce the 1921 Soviet-Turkish Treaty of Friendship and Brotherhood.
"We confirm that a number of State Duma deputies have actually made a proposal to the Russian Foreign Ministry suggesting that the aforesaid treaty be renounced. The petition needs to be studied in order to see what exactly they are proposing, and everything will be done in line with the established procedure," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.
The next question was asked by an Azerbaijani correspondent who emphasized that the possible termination of the 1921 Treaty, which, amongst other issues, established borders between Turkey and the three South Caucasus republics, could harm the interests of Azerbaijan.
"I can say that we are developing relations with Azerbaijan and we are not doing anything that may deteriorate them; we will concentrate only on those [matters] that can improve our relations with this country because we have a lot of bonds in all spheres," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
